The Holstein Presbyterian Church: A Family Matter of Record

I am sharing a matter of record. SUBJECT: HOLSTEIN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. My family, Great Grandparents Jane Main & McDougal marrying the Lewis line, donated the original land on which the Holstein Knox Presbyterian Church was built. I was involved with the church and would forward my services to the church as a harpist, pianist, and in other capacities as needed, and I participated in Sunday service. In 2025, I was informed that the church had been sold for residential use, with the reason given that there was no one available to provide ongoing services. Financial necessity was not cited. The proceeds were directed to the Normanby and Dromore Knox Presbyterian churches, which our family also donated land. Later I Janice Lynn Lewis wrote to those churches offering my services and received no response. Twice. The manner in which this was handled reflects a disregard for family legacy and heritage. When decisions affecting public faith institutions are made without acknowledgment to family. Which involves history or service, particularly by those who hold influence or public responsibility, it raises serious concern. This reflects poorly on those involved. This post reflects my direct experience and understanding of events.

Holstein Presbyterian Church "Sold out"

The Holstein Presbyterian Church, a cornerstone of the community, holds a rich history intertwined with the contributions of local families, notably my great grandparents, Jane Main and McDougal. Their connection to the church extends beyond mere attendance—it reflects a legacy of stewardship and commitment to faith. This post aims to explore the important role the church has played in our lives, highlighting the significant donation of land that made its establishment possible.

A Historical Perspective on Land Donation

The Holstein Knox Presbyterian Church was built on land generously gifted by families like mine, which demonstrates the strong familial bonds that have shaped our community over generations. My great grandparents, Jane Main and her family McDougal, recognized the necessity of a central place for worship, community gathering, and spiritual growth. Their donation signaled not only a commitment to their beliefs but also a dedication to fostering a strong and connected community in Holstein.

The Impact on Generations

Since its inception, the Holstein Presbyterian Church has acted as a beacon of hope and support for countless families. It has provided a sanctuary for worship, important life events, and community service throughout its history. My family's involvement with the church has paved the way for future generations, creating a legacy that intertwines faith, service, and community spirit. In examining the history of our church, we also acknowledge the contributions of others who have come together to ensure its continuity and growth over the years.

As we reflect on this matter of record, we celebrate not just the physical structure of the Holstein Presbyterian Church, but the enduring spirit it nurtures within our community. It stands as a testament to the sacrifices and visions of our ancestors, particularly those of my great grandparents, who truly believed in the power of faith to unite and uplift.
